Jim grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He played high school golf at Jenks High School before attending the University of Kansas. Jim earned All Conference honors in 1993 and graduated from KU that year with a degree in Journalism. Jim moved to Edmond, Oklahoma in 1993 and has lived in the Oklahoma City area ever since. He spent a brief time playing golf professionally before moving into the business world. Jim started Jim Young Golf in 2010 and began teaching at River Oaks Golf Club in Edmond. Jim taught at River Oaks until 2021 when he moved to Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City to become the Director of Instruction. Jim joined the PGA of America in 2010 and became a Class A Member in 2015. As a Member of the PGA’s South Central Section he has been recognized for his work in Player Development, Youth Player Development and Professional Development. Jim was named Teacher of the Year for the Western Oklahoma Chapter in 2015 and 1017 and was awarded the South Central Section’s Patriot Award in 2019 for his ongoing work with the PGA HOPE Veterans Program. Jim has played professionally over the last 15 years, competing in South Central Section PGA and National PGA Club Professional events. Jim was named Assistant Player of the Year for the Section in 2015 & 2016, Section Player of the Year in 2018 and Section Senior Player of the Year in 2022. Jim lives in Edmond, Oklahoma with his wife Ann and their two sons.
