Matt Just, PGA
Head PGA Golf ProfessionalMy name is Matt Just, and I specialize in teaching beginner and intermediate golfers. My most popular lesson is a 30-minute introductory session, where I focus on helping golfers build consistency and confidence in their game.
I grew up in Osseo/Maple Grove, and my passion for golf began at age ten when my dad and grandpa introduced me to the sport. After graduating from St. Cloud State, I pursued my dream by moving to Arizona, earning my PGA Class A Card, and gaining experience in Colorado and Florida. In 2008, I returned home to join LifeTime Fitness as Director of Golf, where I began emphasizing golf fitness. After four successful years, I transitioned to a seven-year leadership role in golf administration with Ramsey County Golf Courses and later served as Director of Golf Operations for the Minneapolis Park Board. Now, as I enter my sixth year at Shamrock, my role as Head Golf Professional centers on customer service, overseeing golf leagues and lessons, and managing pro shop operations.
On the competitive side, I’m proud of several highlights: winning the Nike Golf Pro-Am as Top Professional with a round of 68, qualifying for the Minnesota State Open three consecutive years, securing a top-25 finish at the Minnesota PGA Championship, and advancing past the quarterfinals at the Minnesota PGA Bracket Match Play. I’ve enjoyed participating in many Tapemark Pro-Ams and have fond memories from those competitions. Notably, after failing the PAT twice, I won it on my third attempt with rounds of 73 and 69.
My teaching credentials include TPI Golf Fitness Certification (2008), making me one of the first 100 certified professionals in the country, and ESPN Golf Schools instructor certification (2006), where I learned from some of the nation’s top teachers. Over the years, I’ve helped golfers of all abilities, including those who are blind, use wheelchairs, or are recovering from injuries. I’ve fixed thousands of slices—often in just a few minutes—and have worked with senior golfers to regain distance or adjust their focus for continued enjoyment of the game.
Choosing a career in golf has been deeply rewarding. Each lesson presents a new challenge, and I find it humbling to help others in a sport as demanding as golf. No two lessons are ever the same, and I truly appreciate having a driving range as my office.
A few fun facts: I was a junior champion at Sundance Golf & Bowl at age ten, and I won my first high school golf match with only four clubs. Although hockey and football were my first loves, watching Tiger Woods at the 2000 U.S. Open inspired me to pursue golf professionally. My career has brought unique experiences, from meeting Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson at TPC Scottsdale to organizing youth and women’s golf programs that have made a lasting impact. I’ve enjoyed competitive rounds with friends and colleagues, and memorable moments like a hole-in-one with a ProV1 ball labeled “ACE.”
The best advice I can offer: beginners should focus on learning golf etiquette, pace of play, and the game’s history to build confidence more quickly. Those looking to improve should read “Golf is Not a Game of Perfect” by Dr. Bob Rotella, while aspiring elite players should practice at top facilities and develop effective practice routines.
I look forward to helping every golfer reach their potential.
