Steven J. Hill, PGA
PGA Teaching Professional - 30+ Years ExperienceI have taught both group and private golf lessons for over 30 years across Montana, Arizona, Florida, and Oregon.
During that time, I developed and operated my own golf schools in Arizona and directed junior golf camps in all four states.
My understanding of the golf swing was deeply influenced by Wild Bill Mehlhorn, a member of the first Ryder Cup team and a multiple winner on the PGA Tour, as well as Bobby Shave during my college years at Florida International University. In Golf Digest, Ben Hogan is quoted as saying, “Mehlhorn was the greatest ball striker he had ever seen.”
Other key influences on my teaching philosophy include Manuel de la Torre, who emphasized “swing the club” to simplify motion, and Carey Mumford, with whom I worked while teaching junior camps and who stressed the importance of clearing the mind during the execution of a golf shot.
Additional instructors who have shaped my approach include Paul Runyan (short game), Bob Veroulis, and Dale Newell.
