Gorgeous course. Truly tough for duffers, so it is appropriately named (dubsdread). But I disagree with Mickelson's sentiments about this course. It is challenging but playable. Phil M clearly has an axe to grind w/ Rees Jones. Maybe he's still upset about Rees' work on his hometown course in San Diego?

Cog Hill has been ranked as one of the top courses in the U.S. by Golf Magazine's panel of experts.

Mark Calcavecchia once said No. 4, a 1964 Dick Wilson/Joe Lee design, "could host a U.S. Open tomorrow." It won't be the 2017 Open -- that was awarded to Erin Hills -- but Cog Hill was very close to earning the national championship. Time, technology and soft, inconsistent greens had removed the fangs from a course nicknamed Dubsdread, but a 2008 redo by Rees Jones deepened and repositioned bunkers and stretched it to nearly 7,400 yards.

No. 2 -- Ravines -- opened in 1929 and is routed through wooded and rolling terrain. What the course lacks in length (6,600 yds from back tees), it makes up in strategy. Not as demanding as our championship layout, but it is challenging just the same. The greens are challenging in size and commonly guarded by ravines or grass hollows. Course 1 and Course 3 weave through the same property and feature similar design features. Creeks come into play on numerous holes.
