Christine Song shot a 6-under 66 on Wednesday to take a one-stroke lead over former UCLA star Stephanie Kono after the first round of the 90-hole LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament.

Song and Kono, still an amateur, opened on LPGA International’s Champions Course.

Thidapa Suwannapura had a 68, also on the Champions Course.

Brittany Johnston shot a 69 on the Legends Course.

Seventeen-year-old Ginger Howard, trying to become only the fourth black player on the LPGA Tour, was four strokes back after a 70 on the Champions Course.

The final top 40 and ties will receive 2012 LPGA Tour membership.
