But here's how he can win the FedEx Cup.

Woods, whose ailing back threatened to end his career just over a year ago, can win the FedEx Cup if everything goes his way at the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta this weekend.

He'll have to end his five-year winless drought to make it happen, but it looks good thus far. Woods holds a three-shot lead over Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy heading into Sunday's final round.

If Woods wins in Atlanta, Golfweek has outlined all the other scenarios that must come to fruition for Woods to capture the third FedEx Cup of his career.

Besides winning the Tour Championship, here's what else needs to happen, according to Golfweek:

--Bryson DeChambeau finishing tied for 15th or worse. (He is tied for 21st).

--Justin Rose finishing in a three-way tie for fifth or worse. (He is tied for second).

--Tony Finau finishing tied for third or worse. (He is tied for sixth).

--Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas finishing in a three-way tie for second or worse. (Both are tied for 9th).

--Keegan Bradley finishing tied for second or worse. (He is tied for 27th).

Remember: All these things must happen, and Woods still has to win his first tournament since the 2013 Bridgestone Invitational.

After entering Saturday's third round tied for the lead with Rose, Woods birdied six of his first seven holes, en route to a 5-under-par 65, the day's best round. He is 12-under-par for the tournament, with Rose and McIllroy at 9 under.

Woods shot 68 on Friday, after shooting 65 on Thursday.

According to the PGA Tour's projected FedEx Cup standings, he still needs help to win the title.

Woods would finish second behind Rose if the third-round standings hold up.
