11 PGA Golf Management University program students selected for the 2019 PGA Global Internship Program

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — The PGA of America announced today the 2019 class of PGA Golf Management University Program students selected for the prestigious PGA Global Internship Program.        

Through the program, 11 prospective PGA Members will experience an early understanding of the international golf landscape, which will better position them for global opportunities in the future, while helping build the PGA of America brand internationally. 

The PGA Global Internship Program was developed to align with the PGA’s strategy and commitment to growing the game worldwide, such as in developing countries. Launched with five PGA Golf Management University students last year, the 2019 program will include 11 interns. The students will represent eight of the program’s 18 accredited universities, as they work this summer at leading golf facilities around the world.

“We’re proud to congratulate these 11 outstanding PGA Golf Management University Program students on being selected for a PGA Global Internship, as they acquire international golf industry experience at world-class venues,” said PGA President Suzy Whaley. “Their ability to apply the knowledge they learn from these internships will be a tremendous asset for them throughout their golf careers.”

While each facility will deliver a unique internship experience, the 2019 participants will gain insight into all facets of golf operations, such as outside services, event management and providing five-star service. At the Els Performance Academy, in Vietnam; and Pacific Pines, in China (Mission Hills), the interns will also be responsible for operations at the onsite golf academies, including lessons and player development program support.

Along with the PGA Associate Program, the PGA Golf Management University Program is one of two distinct pathways to earn PGA Membership, as the program is offered at 18 accredited universities nationwide, with an enrollment of approximately 1,750 aspiring PGA Professionals.

The PGA Golf Management University program blends the PGA Associate program courses with bachelor’s degree requirements for each school. The 4.5- to 5-year educational program offers a curriculum that features extensive classroom study and a total of 16 months of internships, to ensure that graduates are equipped with the business knowledge, training and skillset necessary to succeed in their desired golf industry career path.

This PGA Global Internship Program was open to all university students enrolled and in good standing in a PGA Golf Management University program, who are not scheduled to graduate prior to Summer 2019.
