Best Cities to Play Golf and Watch an NFL Game

The NFL is back! If you're headed to root on your favorite team this year in their quest for a Super Bowl, why not add a little golf to the trip?

In line with our favorite college courses from the AP Preseason Top 25, we went straight to the experts — PGA of America Golf Professionals — to get the download on what courses you should play when visiting for NFL games.

Their answers didn't disappoint. Check out our favorite NFL cities to play golf and watch a game:

It'd be hard to leave Lambeau off this list. Historic, iconic, legendary... the adjectives go on and on to describe the home of the Green Bay Packers. Abby Parsons, PGA, a lifelong fan of the Green and Gold, shares two spots to play near Lambeau:

Whistling Straits: "There's a reason this place has hosted PGA Championships and a Ryder Cup. I used to work here as a PGA Assistant Professional for years, and can attest that it truly lives up to the hype. The Straits' routing next to Lake Michigan is stunning and the Irish Course is perfect for an emergency 18 if you need it. Plus if you have more time before game day, there's Blackwolf Run and its two 18-holes and par-3 course to tack on. Only an hour south of Lambeau, I highly recommend stopping here before a game."

The Bull: "This is a Jack Nicklaus gem. The Bull is a well-loved golf course that is less than twenty minutes away from Whistling Straits, and it is easy to see why. This course is hard, like really hard, but it is so fun. Part of the fun is that you and your group are all struggling to navigate this course together, but the other half of the fun is that you are playing one of the most unique courses you will ever experience. If you have the time to drive 15 minutes from Kohler to get to The Bull, do it."

The Bills' new home has been one of the most-talked about stadiums in a long time, so it'll be exciting to see noted golf sicko Josh Allen and company go on a run for a Super Bowl from sparkling Highmark. David Reasoner, PGA, who's gone through the heartache of being a Bills fan since childhood shares his top spots:

Glen Oak Golf Club: "This course is just 30 minutes north of the new stadium and is your classic, feel-good public spot. Glen Oak is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design and has some really fun holes. There's plenty of bunkers and water, but also some parts of the course that you can really attack if you're playing well. It's also home to the Western New York PGA Section, so you know they'll have it in great shape."

Grover Cleveland Golf Course: "Grover Cleveland is a Travis Walter and Donald Ross design ... that you can play for less than $30! There's not many courses in the country with those names attached to them for that price, so if you need a shorter and quicker round before kickoff, Grover Cleveland is it. The course is a 5,621-yard par 69 that hosted a U.S. Open, so it oozes history for great value."

While the 49ers are starting their season Down Under in Australia against the Rams, they'll be back to Levi's Stadium in short order. And being in Santa Clara, the 49ers are close to some incredible golf. Will Manning, PGA, who works in the Bay Area at Cal Club, gives a few spots not far from Levi's:

Pasatiempo: "There's a reason Alister MacKenzie consider this course his favorite and if you're in town for a 49ers game, lucky for you that it sits less than 45 minutes from the stadium in Santa Cruz. It is truly one of America’s finest courses and was recently restored to bring it back to its Golden Age roots. From the majestic views atop the first tee to the iconic 16th green, from the grandeur of glistening white bunkers to the challenge of the large and sloping greens; there is nothing about Pasatiempo that isn't top tier."

Pebble Beach: "Pebble is roughly 90 minutes from Levi's but, as most golfers know, it sits across some of the most beautiful scenery ever used for a golf course. Look no further than the short, par-3 7th or the closing par-5, 18th that is just meant for photos you'll keep on your desk for a lifetime. It's incredible, and while it's expensive, Pebble Beach is bucket-list material."

Will the Chicago Bears have as crazy a season as last year? Unlikely, but if you're a Bears fan and want to find out how one of the NFL's oldest teams fares this fall, Soldier Field on the Chicago lakefront is an idyllic place for a game. Ryan Adams, PGA, a Bears fan for better or worse, shares his top courses to play near the stadium:

Cog Hill No. 4: "In the suburbs south of Soldier Field, Cog Hill is a well-known Chicago-area course that you need to play if you're headed to Soldier Field on a fall weekend. No. 4 is the premier offering at Cog Hill and for good reason: it's difficult, in immaculate condition, and has a routing that makes you want to come back again."

The Glen Club: "North of downtown is this gem. It's a semi-private club that allows daily fee play, so if you have a Bears game lined up, try to book here early. The course was designed by Tom Fazio on top of an old naval base, with the land completely transformed to create a really fun experience. The final hole is one of the best in Chicago.

Harborside International: "Super close to Soldier Field (less than 20 minutes). Amazing views of the city. 36 holes for a decent price. Yeah, Harborside has a lot going for it and is one of the South Side's best public courses. Both layouts are links-style, too, so Harborside is completely different than anything else in Chicago."

The Seattle Seahawks are looking to become back-to-back Super Bowl Champions this season and are off to a good start after a 13-10 victory on Sept. 10 over the New England Patriots. Druid's Glen Golf Club: "This is one of the best courses in western Washington and perhaps the entire state. It's only 45 minutes from downtown and Lumen Field, so its definitely reasonable to include in a weekend trip. At Druid's, every hole has a different feel to it, and when you get to No. 13-16... it's about as tranquil and peaceful as a golf course can get. Mt. Rainier is in the backdrop from virtually ever part of Druid's, which makes it even more unique." -- Luke Olson, PGA

The Golf Club at Newcastle: "I teach here from late spring to early fall, and it's an incredible spot to tee it up. The views of the Seattle skyline, Lake Washington, Mt. Rainer, and the mountain ranges in the distance are top-tier, and perhaps nowhere better. Plus, you're only about 15-20 minutes to a Seahawks game which makes it easy to tee it up in the morning, then head downtown. Highly recommend this place." -- Keith Bennett, PGA
